Fr. Carlito's Story - Timor-Leste to Rome Fr. Carlito was born in a small village called Madabate, in Aileu, Timor-Leste. He loved school, walking between two and three hours with his friends every day to get there. This experience taught him how to work hard and struggle in everything he does, and he progressed to high school. It was here that a friend introduced him to the Carmelite Order. From his first meeting with the Carmelite friars he was attracted to the spirit of fraternity, community togetherness and depth of prayer. He joined the Order as an Aspirant on graduating high school in 2003. After Fr. Carlito’s Priestly Ordination in 2015, he accompanied a group of of Aspirants and Postulants to a formation house. Following this, he was permitted to move to Rome to continue his studies in spirituality, and has moved on to Doctorate level study in Mariology, partially funded by Society of the Little Flower. In Rome, he as built links with other Carmelites from all around the world. In June 2021, Fr. Carlito attended an audience with the Pope and had the opportunity to meet and be blessed by the Holy Father, who said: ‘Keep your faith, you are still young, pray diligently and do the best in your study.’ It is only with donations from Society of the Little Flower’s supporters that we can continue to support the formation of people like Fr. Carlito, who form prayerful communities at the service of all God’s people. You can make a regular or one off donation here.
