Prior General Addresses Carmelites Worldwide Ahead of Brandsma Canonisation The Carmelite Prior General, Fr. Míċeál O’Neill, O. Carm., has addressed Carmelites around the world ahead of the canonisation of Carmelite Friar, Blessed Titus Brandsma which will take place in Rome on 15th May. Earlier this month, the Office of Communications released a letter from the Prior General which described the 'enormous joy to the whole Carmelite Family' that this momentous occasion brings. Carmelites will be celebrating the event across the world and the Carmelite Order will hold a number of events in Rome to honour the new Saint. Groups such as Carmel-in-the-City, the Spirituality Group based at St Joseph's Bunhill Row, near London's Barbican, will be travelling en masse to the ceremony itself. In his public letter, the Prior General describes the witness of Fr. Titus as one ''that inspires and enlightens, not only members of the Carmelite Order, but the society in which we live. We find in him in these times so troubled by the threat and existence of war, a prophet of hope and a champion of peace.'' The Prior General goes on to give a detailed evaluation of the inspirational life of the Blessed Friar, covering significant aspects of the Friar's outlook, faith and philosophy in addition to detailing the true, lasting impact that his life continues to have on today's world.
